How to test the color of oil with Lovibond Colorimeter ?

Lovibond Colorimeter is an instrument used to measure the color of liquids, powders and other substances. It is widely used in the food, beverage, chemical and other industries.

The following are the general steps for testing the color of edible oil using Lovibond Colorimeter:

I.Preparation

Sample preparation: Make sure the edible oil sample reaches room temperature (20-25°C) before testing to avoid temperature effects on color reading.

Colorimeter calibration: Make sure the colorimeter is calibrated and in good working condition according to the manufacturer's instructions.

II.Testing steps

1.Cleaning the colorimeter tube:

Clean the colorimeter tube thoroughly with an appropriate cleaning agent, then rinse it with distilled water and finally dry it with a clean lens paper or lint-free cloth.

Filling the sample: Pour the edible oil sample into the colorimeter tube and fill it to 1/3 to 1/2 of the tube.

Fix the colorimeter tube with the sample using the colorimeter tube clamp.

Compare the color of the sample with the Lovibond standard colorimeter tablet:

Turn on the light source of the colorimeter and let the light pass through the colorimeter tube containing the sample.

Compare the color of the sample with the Lovibond standard colorimeter tablet. Colorimetric chips usually come in a range of standard colors, including shades of red, yellow, blue, etc.

Place the colorimetric chips one by one in the colorimetric slot of the colorimeter, compare them with the sample, and find the standard colorimetric chip that is closest to the sample color.

2.Read the color value:

Once you find the colorimetric chip that is closest to the sample color, record the number or colorimetric value of the colorimetric chip.

If the sample color is between two standard colorimetric chips, you can record the average of the two colorimetric chips.

3.Repeat the test:

To ensure accuracy, it is recommended to repeat the test at least twice and then take the average.

4.Record data:

Record the test results in the laboratory record book, including sample information, colorimetric chip number used, test date, tester and other information.

III.Precautions

Avoid direct light and reflection from affecting the colorimetric reading.

When comparing colors, make sure the colorimeter and colorimetric chips are clean and free of stains to avoid affecting the test results.

Be careful during operation to avoid contamination of the sample.

Lovibond colorimeters of different brands and models may have slight operating differences. Please be sure to refer to the operating manual of the specific instrument for accurate operation
