FAQ
Q : How does an optical dissolved oxygen meter sensor work?
A : The fiber optic reader emits a blue light that excites the fluorophore which emits light back at the higher wavelength. In the
presence of oxygen, the fluorescence is quenched, and a higher level of oxygen leads to lower emission intensities.
Q : What is a normal dissolved oxygen level in water?
A : 6.5-8 mg/L
Water at lower temperatures should have higher mg/L of dissolved oxygen and higher %DO while warmer, polluted waters will
have lower mg/L and %DO. Healthy water should generally have dissolved oxygen concentrations above 6.5-8 mg/L and between about 80-120 %.
Q : What are the advantages of an optical sensor?
A : Advantages of Optical Sensors in Chemical Analysis
Optical sensors can also detect changes in the sample's physical and chemical characteristics, such as pH, temperature, and pressure, making them
very flexible and suitable for various applications.
