YP-M5 optical density meter McFarland turbidimeter

YP-M5 is an optical density measuring instrument that presents results in McFarland units, also known as a McFarland turbidimeter.

A densitometer uses a light source to illuminate a sample and detects the intensity of the light passing through the sample using a photoelectric sensor. This intensity is proportional to the turbidity or density of the sample, and the optical density of the sample is calculated based on the detected light intensity. The densitometer can be used to measure the turbidity of cell suspensions in the range of 0.0–5.0 McFarland units (0-150 × 10^7 cells/ml). It enables rapid and reliable preliminary testing in fields such as microbial identification and cell concentration measurement.

Cell Concentration Measurement: Densitometers can be used to measure the concentration of microorganisms such as bacteria or yeast in microbial cultures. This is crucial for understanding the growth of microorganisms during fermentation.

Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing: Densitometers can help assess the sensitivity of microorganisms to antibiotics. By measuring the turbidity of microbial cultures, the degree of microbial response to antibiotics can be determined.

Microbial Identification: Densitometers can serve as a quick and reliable method for preliminary identification of microorganisms. Different types of microorganisms may produce different turbidity levels on the densitometer, allowing for differentiation through measurement.

Absorbance Measurement: Densitometers can be used to measure the absorbance of microbial cultures at specific wavelengths. This is very useful for studying the content or changes of specific components in microbial cultures.

Color Solution Concentration Estimation: Densitometers can also be used to quantitatively estimate the concentration of colored solutions that absorb green light. This is very useful when using dyes or indicators in microbiological experiments.
